My life as a

professional

Venn Diagram

During an icebreaker at a party I was asked which fruit I would be in a fruit salad. And I said tomato.

Like the tomato, I fit into a few worlds. I'm kind of like a Venn Diagram - a business, marketing, branding and communication geek who loves visual arts and design. That Venn Diagram approach was the vision behind starting Royann Dean Consulting, bringing together the best people in scalable, multidisciplinary teams that create impactful change driven by a strategic approach to communication.

OTHER PROJECTS
It’s not often that we can lose ourselves in a project that we are passionate about.

I’ve been lucky to have a few.

Transforming Spaces Art Tour: Panel Discussion Concept + Moderation

Transforming Spaces, started in 2004, is an annual art tour in Nassau, Bahamas that is a platform for the best in Bahamian visual arts as well as artists throughout the Caribbean and beyond. I developed two talks for first ever Transforming Spaces lecture series, So Money and You Belong Here. As the moderator of You Belong Here, I led a conversation about the impact of visual arts and hospitality on the economic development of The Bahamas with panelists Amanda Coulson, Director of the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas and Dr. Ian Bethell Bennet, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal and Fine Arts at the College of The Bahamas.

tmg* Talks: Panel Discussion Concept + Moderation

tmg* Talks was The Bahamas' first ever panel discussion on design, business and the creative economy. These groundbreaking panel discussions featured leaders in business and the creative class with a focus on the importance of making Nassau a more liveable city and expanding local perspectives of design and creativity around topics such as Architecture, Design and Sustainable Development, Entrepreneurism and the Creative Class and Economic Diversification and the Creative Class.

2018 Creative Time Summit

I moderated the discussions after conference presentations during the live stream at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas.

Art is Business: Art + Hospitality Creative Experiences Concept Paper

Art is Business is a framework to integrate local visual arts into the luxury hospitality industry. Using the lens of the global art market and relevant industry benchmarks, the framework details the rationale for localizing the appeal to this lifestyle segment. Art is Business also includes tactical commercial ideas for transforming art from an investment in aesthetics and design into a revenue generating operation.

This groundbreaking multimedia campaign for the $4.6 billion luxury resort led the wave of editorial-style interview ads in The Country and won a Magellan travel industry award in the process. As part of the marketing team at Baha Mar, I worked with the then production manager and the then chief marketing officer campaign to develop the concept, including narrative development and content development for video and print ads. The Baha Mar Dream Team campaign was the first of its kind in The Bahamas to give the unscripted perspectives of hospitality professionals in fields ranging from  fine arts and environmental sciences to engineering and finance.

Baha Mar Dream Team Campaign: Concept and Content Development + Creative Direction

My passion for brand visual storytelling was ignited while working on my graduate thesis on figurative storytelling in the retail industry. Using the U.S.-based retailer Anthropologie as a case study, the research explored the connections between visual storytelling, design strategy and branding. The findings showed that in the competitive world of women's retail, connecting with customers through design to tell the brand's story increased sales as well as brand engagement, affiliation and loyalty.
